Lancashire Aero Club was established in 1922, is the oldest active flying club in the UK and possibly the world. It was based at Barton Aerodrome from 1947 until early 2007 but has now left for another venue, although we are actively seeking an airfield of our own.

New free online magazine

Peter Maher writes:
"I'm fairly sure that not all the members of Lancashire Aero Club will also be members of the PFA (sorry LAA). As a result they may not be aware of a new Aviation Magazine which started earlier this year. I learnt about it in the LAA Magazine. The new publication is AV8 Free On-Line Magazine and I can commend it as an excellent read each month with some very good pictures. I have seen the Loop Magazine but I rate AV8 much higher. The correspondents have written some very good reports of events and Fly-Ins visited during the summer. Just register your e-mail address at www.av8magazine.com and you will receive a message each time the magazine is published. "

Free landings at Woodford

In the interests of keeping up controller currency Woodford have announced that circuits (both touch-and-go and full stop) are to be free to all for the time being. This concession is likely to last only for a few months, so members are urged to get Woodford into their logbooks while the opportunity exists. For security reasons pilots will not be able to leave the airside area, and the canteen is not open to visitors. Be warned also that only Jet A1 is available there. Woodford will be open from Monday to Thursday 0830-1600 unless operational issues preclude it, and PPR and briefing is essential from 0161 439 3383
